Screen Printing

Patchwork Fantasy employs manual screen-printing to produce garments, artist editions and other ephemera. Screen-printing is the process of pushing ink through a stencil bound into the mesh of the screen. As such, colors are rendered one at a time and layered together to create the final image. These layers are spot colors and as such all gradations are achieved through the optical illusion of halftones.

Specifications

For garments (shirts, hoodies, totes...) we are currently accepting jobs with up to four-colors at a maximum printing area of 15.5" x 18" (3.75" x 17" for sleeves/legs).

For paper, we can accomodate a printable area of 17" x 23" at this time.

All files should be separated by color/layer, at least 300dpi (ideally 600dpi for raster type files), and color refences provided.

Risograph Printing

Risograph printing falls somewhere between screen-printing, a copy machine & offset-printing; the risograph prints spot colors one at a time at a rapid rate automatically. Images are made into a stencil atop a drum of colored soy ink as paper passes across creating repeatable impressions. Each color cooresponds to a separate drum, so each color is printed one at a time, layering to make a complete image.

Risograph printing is a great option for larger editions & publications as it can quickly and cheaply produce many copies of the same impression.

Risograph is an emerging service for us and because we are still learning, pricing reflects the growing experience in the medium. We currently print on an ancient RZ220ui.

Specifications

Due to limitations on our particular machine, the printable paper sizes are letter (8.5" x 11") and Legal (8.5" x 14") with maximum printable areas of 10.25" x 7.75" and 13.25" x 7.75".

Currently, we employ six color drums in our machine:
